| Austin is 4 pounds and 12 ounces of poodle
perfection and I can't even claim any credit for it.
Austin was the first dog I ever bought long distance. I had been in touch
with the breeder for well over a year, knew I wanted a dog produced by
Austin's father and kept waiting for the right one. When Austin became
available the timing was right for me and he was too. Although I would have
chosen a dog with the exact coloring of Austin's father I could have waited
years and there was something - aside from coloring - about his father's
expressions, his "vibe" in pictures, that just grabbed me.
Austin arrived at the airport in Raleigh NC, 3 1/2 hours from my house.
He was just under 2 pounds. He shivered once, cuddled into my lap and by the
time we were home he acted as if he'd been with me forever.
Austin is the epitome of cuteness. Sometimes he looks like a cartoon dog
to me. His personality is also that of a cartoon dog. He's a lover and a
cuddler. People who think that female dogs are better companions are
instantly converted by Austin about 30 seconds after he curls up on their
laps. He is very smart, will do tricks, loves training sessions and will let
me groom him forever. He is great friends with Java and plays with all the
other dogs. He adores Sienna and always defers to Panama.
He can get a bit noisy out in the yard, barking when any other dog comes
into view (and there are many in our neighborhood) but he understands the
quiet command and is very good about chilling out once he's had his say. The
idea of a four pound protection dog is ludicrous to humans but we've
recently noted that Austin takes it quite seriously. When my husband was
relating a story to me in loud voice and hand gestures his hand gestures
apparently began to look threatening. We were both startled to note a four
pound growl coming from my lap telling him to "Back off buddy". |
