Anisette Little Smith

Ani's Puppies

Ani's puppies were born 12 days after Harley's puppies. In the picture below Harley's pups were 8 weeks old and Harley had weaned them. Ani had not yet weaned hers entirely and apparently 8 week old poodles are smart enough to go where the food source is. Although it's impossible to see it clearly in the picture Ani has all 9 pups (5 of Harley's and 4 of her own) attempting to nurse.

Ani is a delicately built little thing. She weighs in at 9 pounds and is just over 10 inches tall (which officially makes her a miniature rather than a toy although she is the size people usually expect to see when they are thinking of a toy).

Ani expects to be paid homage, not in the egotistical way of a super-model (which she is certain she could be) but in the matter-of-fact, it's-my-birth-right way of a Queen. She is extremely smart and would be the first to tell you (if she could) that poodles are far too smart to be as  shallow as the super-model stereotype and far too good looking to need to compete in such a way.

Ani is the only one in the family who wears a rhinestone collar which Ken bought for her - to my shock. (He doesn't go for anything poodlesque.) As he said, "I didn't buy it because she's a poodle. I bought it because she's a queen and a tiara would fall off."

Ani is a very good mother and even got suckered into nursing Harley's puppies after Harley weaned them but she doesn't go looking for puppies to take care of and she doesn't lose her figure - not even for a week - after whelping.

If Ani likes you she will greet you wagging a toy in her mouth and wagging her tail in sync. If she doesn't like you she won't even look up. She is much more independent than most and doesn't need - or want - as much attention as the others  but when she does want attention, you WILL give it to her.

Further proof of her royalty (or charisma or something) is this: With all the poodles in this house who fawn all over everyone Ani is the one that everyone wants to be liked by. A poodle whose opinion seems to matter!

Ani and Molly are litter mates.

Ani is the most clever of The Paque. If I can make something Ani-proof, I know it's Paque proof.

All of my dogs scratch on the door if they want to go out but only Ani scratches on the door when she wants someone else to go out. Ani has somehow realized that the others generally respond to hearing the door open and has used that fact to her advantage a number of times. She has lured Molly outside so that she could eat her food and she regularly has me open the door to let Harley out. (Ani does not like Harley because Harley will not acknowledge her "position".) If Harley doesn't want to go out Ani will herd her and sometimes just push her out. (Harley is 2 pounds heavier than Ani but Ani is clearly in charge.)
