If the children are young some rescues will not adopt out a very small dog. Kids can be rough on the little dogs.

I believe that all dogs should eat premium foods and Yorkies eat so little that I can't really see the price of food being an issue but the vet is another story. I really don't know how people should plan for that except maybe to have a credit card that is used exclusively for the vet. I have an article coming up soon on the cost of owning a dog.

I have a friend looking for a yorkie for her bi-polar granddaughter. She cannot afford the prices. I advised her to look for a hardier small-breed or a mix-breed. I believe there are other children there and the price of grooming, vet bills and specialty foods may be a bit much for someone on a limited income. I wish more people would do a little research on the cost side of certain breeds as well as the temperament plus puppy vs. dog!
